Toni Hill needs help with memorial fund for her brother

Well-Known Musician & Activist Seeks Community Donations in the Wake of a Family Tragedy

for immediate release June 6, 2011

Toni Hill has spent most of her adult life giving back to the communities she has called home and now she urgently needs the community to return the love.

On Memorial Day, May 30, 2011, Raymond Buchanan, known musically as DJ Double R or by friends and family as Ray Ray unexpectedly died of heart failure. He was 42 and had no insurance and now, his family, including his sister Toni Hill, needs the community’s donations in order to lay him to rest.

You may recognize Toni Hill as one of the original members of the legendary band Hungry Mob, or maybe you know her as one of only two female emcees who rock with the Oldominion crew. You may know her as one of the two members of the legendary girl group Sirens Echo (along with Syndel of Oldominion) or perhaps you are more familiar with her debut solo project, “Only Love,” produced by Amos Miller.

No matter where you know Toni from, what may be less known about her is her life long commitment to community volunteer work. Toni credits her grandmother, the late Evelyn Buchanan, for instilling in her a spirit of giving. The list of organizations Toni has volunteered with is innumerable. From FTP (Feed The People) in Atlanta, GA to repeat efforts with the now annual Portland Youth Summit, Toni Hill has been paying it forward, one effort at a time. Other agencies she has worked with include Guerrilla Theater (Portland), Sisterz of The Underground (San Francisco), Power of Hope (Seattle), Youth Speaks (Seattle), and the Seattle Debate Foundation. Toni has also worked with Gateways for Incarcerated Youth (Olympia), Veterans for Peace (Portland), and she participated in multiple fundraisers events for survivors of Hurricane Katrina and the Haiti Earthquake.

Toni Hill and her family are hopeful that the communities Toni has devoted her life to serving and uplifting, via volunteer services and music with a message, will return some of the love and make a donation that will go directly towards the cost of laying her brother, Raymond Buchanan to rest. Donations are being accepted at any Bank of America, Washington Checking Account Number 46 48 67 67, payable to Antonia Hill for Raymond Buchanan. PLEASE CIRCLE WA as the state code (where the account was set up) when making a deposit from any Bank of America.
